Halloween Candy Corn Tank Top

One of the easiest Halloween projects is a simple candy corn coloured tie dye.  You only need to use yellow & orange dye and the result is cute wearable candy corn! This project is made even spookier with a crocheted skull.

Dyed Halloween Skull Candy Corn Tank

Materials:

  • Tintex Tangerine Orange & Brilliant Yellow fabric dyes (you can also make orange by mixing a custom dye colour using red & yellow dyes).
  • White cotton fabric (use a white T shirt or dress)
  • Measuring cup
  • Measuring spoons
  • 2 Plastic buckets, glass or stainless steel bowls
  • Felt scraps (optional)
  • Paint brush or sponge brush (optional)
  • Permanent markers (optional)
  • Scissors (optional)
  • Glue & glue gun (optional)

Directions:

  1. Get dyeing supplies, protect work-station with plastic and wear plastic or rubber gloves to avoid staining hands
  2. Add power dye to hot water and mix well until completely dissolved
  3. Add each dye solution (Brilliant Yellow and Tangerine Orange) to bowl or bucket
  4. Place the bottom third of the clean, damp fabric into the yellow dyebath; leave immersed & moving for 5-10 minutes
  5. Gently squeeze the extra dye solution out of your item but do not wring
  6. Add the middle area of your bag to the into the orange dyebath leaving it immersed and moving it around slightly for approximately 5-10 minutes
  7. Gently squeeze the extra dye solution out of your item but do not wring
  8. Run cold water down from the lightest shade to the darkest to remove extra dye until water runs clear 
  9. Allow your item to air-dry and iron on a low setting when slightly damp
  10. Clean the work station using bleach (if needed) and warm water as soon as possible
  • Optional: enhance your dyed Halloween costume; draw shapes or words with a permanent marker or use a contrasting darker colour of dye and a paint brush. 
  • Optional: attach cut out felt shapes with a glue gun.
